公有领域天下有道，卻走馬以糞。
天下無道，戎馬生於郊。
禍莫大於不知足；咎莫大於欲得。故知足之足，常足矣。

待校读天下有道，知足知止，無求於外，各修其內而已，故卻走馬以治田糞也。
貪欲無厭，不修其內，各求於外，故戎馬生於郊也。

待校读謂人主有道也。
糞者，糞田也。兵甲不用，卻走馬治農田，治身者卻陽精以糞其身。
謂人主無道也。
戰伐不止，戎馬生於郊境之上，久不還也。
好淫色也。
富貴不能自禁止也。
欲得人物，利且貪也。
守真根也。
無欲心也。

Public domainWhen the Tao prevails in the world, they send back their swift
horses to (draw) the dung-carts. When the Tao is disregarded in the
world, the war-horses breed in the border lands.
There is no guilt greater than to sanction ambition; no calamity
greater than to be discontented with one's lot; no fault greater than
the wish to be getting. Therefore the sufficiency of contentment is
an enduring and unchanging sufficiency.
