公有领域信言不美，
美言不信。
善者不辯，辯者不善。
知者不博，
博者不知。
聖人不積，
既以為人己愈有，
既以與人己愈多。
天之道，利而不害；
聖人之道，為而不爭。

本在樸也。

無私自有，唯善是與，任物而已。

待校读信者，如其實也。不美者，朴且質也。
美言者，滋美之華辭。不信者，飾偽多空虛也。
善者，以道修身也。不綵文也。
辯者，謂巧言也。不善者，舌致患也。山有玉，掘其山；水有珠，濁其淵；辯口多言，亡其身。
知者，謂知道之士。不博者，守一元也。
博者，多見聞也。不知者，失要真也。
聖人積德不積財，有德以教愚，有財以與貧也。
既以為人施設德化，己愈有德。
既以財賄布施與人，而財益多，如日月之光，無有盡時。
天生萬物，愛育之，令長大，無所傷害也。
聖人法天所施為，化成事就，不與下爭功名，故能全其聖功也。

Public domainSincere words are not fine; fine words are not sincere. Those
who are skilled (in the Tao) do not dispute (about it); the
disputatious are not skilled in it. Those who know (the Tao) are not
extensively learned; the extensively learned do not know it.
The sage does not accumulate (for himself). The more that he
expends for others, the more does he possess of his own; the more that
he gives to others, the more does he have himself.
With all the sharpness of the Way of Heaven, it injures not; with
all the doing in the way of the sage he does not strive.
